Gary works from his studio in South Hiendley, West Yorkshire. He studied fine art (sculpture) at Leeds College of Art, and Breton Hall College under the sculptor Rob Ward.

He paints using a variety of media ,but has found that using oil paint produces an image that satisfies his need to paint in a bold sculptural way. Almost all his paintings are now rendered in oil.

He produces images of lonely out of the way places, where the presence of humans is merely hinted at.

He has begun to paint figuratively in the last few years using old photos of family members as a reference for creating images that engage the viewer and activate their own family memories.

Gary has exhibited widely in the UK over the last 15 years . In Yorkshire he has exhibited at the Cooper Gallery, the Mercer Gallery, The Left Bank, and the Great North Art Show where he won the prize for best small painting.
