The Artists Story ...

I love the outdoors, walking in the countryside with my dog , taking in the ever changing vistas , photographing a moment in time . Seeing what nature puts together is so inspiring , the colours, textures and patterns in abundance and then add the changing light and weather. At the moment the woods around me are huge source of inspiration , the ancient alongside the younger pine forests and the well trodden paths , occasionally bathed in light in between the showers. I’m always looking for areas of interest that inspire the paintings , wanting people to see the beauty I see in the ordinary , the way the light plays around on the foliage , bark and grasses or even a dirt path, trying to evoke the emotions I feel when seeing an area I want to paint .

I studied textiles, surface pattern, ceramics and glass at Barnsley College, finally specialising in ceramics at Carlisle.

I have been fortunate to have been taught by some amazing artists and ceramicists:
Jim Malone , Greg Allam , Steve Ellis , Steve and Alison Ogden to name a few.

I won Young Designer of the Year in 1989 and the following year I was awarded a grant from The Prince’s Trust to help set up a pottery studio.

I moved to my latest premises in 2007 where I have the luxury of working from a studio in my garden , surrounded by inspiration.
