"For me my Artwork is a reflection of myself- in constant state of personal development ,changing and learning new skills as I go through life. Over the years I’ve applied this to my drawing skills that I want to develop constantly and I do that by choosing subject matter that is challenging for me. Which includes a range of content including seascapes, portraits, animals, my own photography, archived photography, and even bottles of Budweiser.
Charcoal has become my medium of choice after a friend suggested I would love it and I’ve been working with charcoal for just over a year now , I’m just in ore with it. I love the fact that I can make a painting out of such a dry material, using charcoal pencil in combination with brushes and erasers, it’s just fascinating to me. Starting with white paper and working my way from light tones of charcoal to dark tones, picking up on the contrast , shadows, and the light bouncing off each subject in each drawing is an obsession and I want to draw it."
Carmel Earnshaw also a full time nurse is Barnsley born and raised in Hoyland, she studied Art at Barnsley college and Sheffield Hallam university and creates all her artworks at home.
"I wanted my drawings to be bigger so I had to create my own studio in a corner at home, it’s a great space for me with a 7ft drawing board and north facing light that looks over my garden with views of the countryside, anyone who knows me knows I’m a home bird , I’m in my element drawing, whilst been surrounded with what I love most in this world”
